Press Release from Chief Stelter March 18, 2020Dear Citizens and Guests of Indian Head Park,
The Corona Virus (COVID 19) has brought a new way of how we go about living our lives. The Indian Head Park Police Department has dedicated ourselves to remain committed to the protection of all those who live or visit Indian Head Park. We are also committed to the safety of our first responders and have found it necessary to modify our operations. The main goal for this modification is to prevent or contain the spread of COVID 19, especially to those individuals who fall into the high-risk category. I want to assure everyone that the Indian Head Park Police Department is constantly monitoring the everyday changes to COVID 19 through the receiving of updates from the Cook County Department of Public Health (www.cookcountypublichealth.org), the Illinois Department of Public Health (dph.illinois.gov) the Center for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov) and the Governor’s Office. Effective immediately the Indian Head Park Police Department will abide by the following operational protocol: Indian Head Park Police will only respond to High Priority and Emergency calls such as: - Violent crimes and crimes against persons.
- In-progress calls where the offender is still on the scene.
- Traffic crashes involving injuries, where vehicles are not drivable, or minor crashes involving children or school buses, or for large amounts of debris on the roadway.
- Property Crimes (burglary, vandalism, theft, etc.) which serial numbers are obtained or the scene needs to be processed.
- Vehicle lockouts in which small children may be inside vehicles only.
- The PD Commander or officer in charge may also determine if a response is truly warranted or may be handled by telephone.
Indian Head Park Police will handle Low Priority calls by telephone:- Calls such as minor traffic crash that occurred on private property (ensure you obtain all the other drives information, insurance company and vehicle information); delayed incidents, ordinance violations or any other non-emergency situations. You may call 911 or the non-emergency number (708) 246-4534.
- The Indian Head Park Police Department will also temporarily suspend all in-person service functions such as fingerprinting, vehicle lockouts (except when a child is still in the car), ride-along or any other non-essential purpose for anyone to be at the police station.
PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE POLICE DEPARTMENT:- If your report can be taken over the telephone.
- If you have a fever or have had a fever within the last 48 hours.
- If you have traveled outside the United States within the last two weeks.
- If you are experiencing any flu-like symptoms, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath.
Please remember that we are committed to serving our citizens and provide the best possible service, but to do this we must ensure our staff remains healthy and not take any careless actions. COVID-19 is a serious health issue and we must treat it as exactly that. Thank you for understanding. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Sincerely, Steven Stelter Chief of Police
