Winter Driving Checklist
It's a good thing to keep a winter survival kit in your vehicle. Having essential supplies can provide some comfort and safety for you and your passengers should you become stranded or stuck.
Checklist
- Nylon carrying bag
- Ice scraper/Snowbrush
- Shovel
- Bag of Sand-or-Kitty Litter
- Tow Rope or Chain
- Maps
- Jumper -or- Booster Cables
- Tire repair kit
- Road flares -or- Warning lights
- Gas Line antifreeze
- Flashlight with extra batteries
- Transistor radio with extra batteries
- First Aid Kit
- Fire Extinguisher (5 Ib. "A, B, C " type)
- Small tool kit
- Extra clothing and footwear
- Regular blanket, "Space Blanket" or a sleeping bag
- Non-perishable energy foods - i.e. chocolate or granola bars, juice, instant coffee, tea, or soup.
- Can opener
- Bottled drinking water
- Candles, and a small empty tin can
- Matches
- Extra doses of any prescription medications
- Toilet paper
- Change of clothes
- Cash
Remember, you may be stranded for as much as 72 hours. Make sure you have enough supplies to meet your needs. Stay with your car! If you are in a remote area, remember that your vehicle is easier to spot from the air and your vehicle can provide you with shelter.
