Indian Head Park Mayor Richard S. Andrews announced at the meeting of the Village Board of Trustees on September 8, 2011 the establishment of a Community Awareness Program designed to keep residents informed of police matters occurring in the Village. The Community Awareness Program will consist of monthly meetings to be held on the 4th Wednesday of the month beginning September 28, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Village Hall.

Mayor Andrews stated that the meetings will last about 30 to 60 minutes and will be conducted by the Chief, a sergeant, or other member of the police force. The objectives of he meetings are to inform residents regarding matters of public safety and to obtain input pertaining to resident’s concerns. All residents are welcome. Chief of Police Frank Alonzo, Jr. will oversee the program.

Blackhawk Park Improvements

Work bids for the Blackhawk Park improvements as a result of the Lyons Township Park Bond grant are being finalized by the Village Engineer.

Heritage Center Improvements

The contract for the Heritage Center improvements was approved at the August Village Board meeting. Work is expected to begin shortly.

Neighborly Reminder

Residents, please be a good neighbor and remove pet waste while walking your animal throughout the community. Chapter 6.04, Section 6.04.40, of the Municipal Code, entitled Animal Waste, states in part: "It is unlawful for any person to cause or permit a dog or cat to be on any property (public or private) including but not limited to any street, sidewalk, parkway, or common ground areas of condominiums and townhome subdivisions or upon the floor or hall of any multiple-dwelling unit which is used in common by the tenants thereof; or upon the fences, lawns, Pooper Scoopergrounds, driveways or parkways of any premises, or the walls or stairways of any building abutting on a public way unless such person has in his immediate possession a device for the immediate removal of excrement to a receptacle location upon the property owned or possessed by such person. It is unlawful for any person in control of any dog or cat to cause or permit any such dog or cat to be on any property, public or private, not owned or possessed by any such person to fail to immediately remove excrement left by such dog or cat to a proper receptacle located on the property owned or possessed by such person." Penalties imposed for violations of this section of the code may result in a fine of up to five hundred dollars ($500) for each violation.
